The end of exerCIZE
Have you ever wondered why this new program by Shaun T was called CIZE?
How many times have you started going to the gym, joined a fitness class or bought a workout program from a store AND started with great intention but slowly stopped doing? Chances are you let your BODY speak louder than your mind. There is countless times in my past that I can think of stopping what I was doing to make my life healthier BECAUSE I got sore, I couldn't do a move JUST like the trainer did on the DVD, or I couldn't finish the workout because I was out of breath. Instead of pushing through the shortness of breath, and the sore muscles and the lack of self belief I just STOPPED.
Every time I made the choice to stop rather than TRY TRY TRY again, I made the decision to stay where I was. Have you ever heard the saying, in order to change you have to be willing to try new things. Often these new things are VERY far out of our comfort zone and current skills. THAT IS WHY it is hard!! When I first started cize I couldn't touch the floor even with my finger tips --- by the end of cize I could put my palms flat on the floor and could go much further yet. THE truth is on day one when I couldn't go as low as Shaun T or the others in the video if I would have quit because of my frustration and lack of self belief I wouldn't be here today. I wouldn't be able to jump higher than ever before AND I wouldn't be able to get through 50 min of cardio without stopping. Every time we consciously make the decision to take leap out of our comfort zone we are actually taking a leap for change.
There has been countless times over my 18 months of getting fit that I have let my my mind go to a negative zone. I let my body's current limitations control my mindset which lead me to quitting, holding back and not trying. Over time this lead to me gaining 12 pounds back, losing my flexibility and losing a ton of muscle.
This has taught me SO much about myself, my journey and what I truly want my life to be like. I want to LOVE my body and to enjoy life. I want to be in control of my health. AND I want to be in control of my future. Without my health I will have no future. WHOA--- dramatic right?
The truth is my life when I am not exercising and giving it my all is filled with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, stress, and a lot of fatigue. These things quickly lead to a BAD downhill spiral. I quickly find myself lashing out at people, having mood swings and then over eating. I have struggled with depression my whole life. In order for me to stay in control and stay healthy I need to focus on me. I need to workout so I have routine, structure, healthy eating and physical activity. When I workout I relieve stress and anxiety. When I work out and eat well I have a much stronger and more positive sense of self. Therefore, this lifestyle change isn't just about losing weight or getting stronger. It is about LIVING my life to the fullest.
So cize --- why is it called the end of exercise? This program isn't about feeling like you are losing weight or building muscle. It is about embracing your body as it changes and becomes healthier. You are constantly pushing yourself to get better at the moves and therefore are having fun, building muscle, and building up your cardio! PLUS you have fun! It is the end to exercise that feels like work. It is the end of working toward just sculpted arms or just sculpted legs. AND it is the start to living in the moment and embracing what your body can do DAY TO DAY!
Once again Shaun T has managed to change my life.
